The Power of Sound

According to the Bible, God created the world by speaking it into existence. Indeed, sound does hold immense power to change, create and even destroy. I remember visiting Kennedy Space Center in Florida years ago and going on a tour of the launch site for the shuttle. We drove several miles away from the launch site but could still see it from the tour bus. At this point, the tour guide told us that this was as close as anyone could be when a shuttle took off and survive without massive protection. Any closer and the sound would kill you. Often, we don't respect or even understand the power that sound has in this physical realm.

Jesus understood. If you read about his miracles in the New Testament, most occasions he spoke words that brought about immense change. He told the waves on the turbulent lake to "Be still", and they were. He told the lame man, "Pick up your bed and walk." You don't always need sound to change things, but it can move things along much more quickly.

We have all experienced our own versions of how sound effects us. We listen to certain music to calm us down or pick us up. We feel bad when others yell at us, and we feel happy when they speak words of affection. Sound has unseen power because it carries various energies or frequencies, which science can actually measure.

Watch this video of the power of sound on rice which has been placed on a sound generator. What I find intriguing is how much more intricate the patterns get the higher the frequency of the sound!

Sound carries tremendous power. Learn to use your words, and even your music, wisely!
