Focus On Expansion

As humans, the world teaches us that we are individual, separate beings. Consequently, we live in a paradigm where we easily become closed off from each other as we go about our daily lives. While it doesn't make us inherently selfish, there are many occasions we forget that everything we do actually affects the whole. For me personally, it is those times I feel closed off from life and the rest of the world I become very depressed. It's no wonder depression is rampant in the world in which we live.

I doesn't have to be that way! When we make the time to focus on our own personal expansion, we take the time to focus on our openness and our connection to the collective, as opposed to viewing our lives as individuals living separately.

Living in your expanded self is easy if you take a few minutes every day to practice! The following is an easy exercise to get you to actually feel this expanded state.

Meditation:  Close your eyes, sit back in a comfortable chair and relax. Feel yourself contained in your body (this is easy as this is our normal state!). Imagine yourself growing so that you now fill the entire room you are sitting in. Next, imagine yourself the size of the building you are in. Expand out to your city block, your city, your county, your state, your country, your continent, the world, the solar system, and the unlimited Universe. It is important to give yourself enough time to feel each state as you imagine your being expanding.

Once you feel yourself with no limits, explore this place. What can you sense within this Oneness? Find someone you know well and are close to. Locate your favorite place to be--not in its individual state but in its expanded state. Everything in the Universe, including yourself, is swirled together in this state of Oneness. Ironically, you can identify individual things within it. It is in this state we can begin to understand how truly connected we are to each other and our world.

When everyone in the world experiences this expanded state, we can truly live in peace and harmony because we will all understand our connections to each other. When we harm one person or thing, we truly harm ourselves and those we love. It is when we focus on our expansion that we are free to love fully. When we focus on our expansion, we become One.
