Expanding Your Heart

When I want to get focused on the day in a positive way, I do this simple exercise designed to open my heart and mind to the people and experiences I meet throughout the day.

I sit quietly for a few minutes, taking slow, steady, deep breaths. Once my body feels calm and still, I begin to focus on my heart--the thump of its beating, the giving and receiving as it pumps blood throughout my body. I picture it growing and expanding and opening like a flower coming in to bloom. It is within this expansion I can feel myself opening up to others and the world.

Sit in the moment. Feel a sense of Oneness with the Universe--people, places and even objects. Allow yourself to fully draw in everything, while at the same time freely and fully give yourself back to the Universe. True flow is the sense of connection with everything, absorbing everything, holding back from nothing. It is truly a place of nonjudgment.

Carry this feeling with you throughout the day. (I also do this exercise whenever I feel myself becoming stressed and disconnected, just to bring myself back into flow.) You will be amazed at the new doors that open up to you as you allow yourself to give and receive with true openness.
